NEW YORK KNICKS AT SACRAMENTO KINGS--NOVEMBER 17, 2010 7:00 PM PACIFIC
The Knicks have a long way to go to get back to contention, but they are showing some improvement this season. They're off a solid effort at Denver last night which resulted in a 2 point loss and pointspread cover. If they bring a similar effort here they'll get the outright win. Ultimately, the Knicks are incidental to this handicap since we're looking for any opportunity to play against the bumbling Sacramento Kings at home. Laying points with teams of this class is never a smart play, and particularly when it involves the Kings. Their decline as a strong home team has been precipitous and shocking. At one point Sacramento's Arco Arena was one of the toughest home courts in the Western Conference--in the same league with the Portland Trailblazers' Memorial Coliseum or the Utah Jazz at the Salt Palace/Delta Center. That was then, this is now. The Kings are 8-25-1 ATS in their last 33 home games including an 0-5 mark this season. Since 2008 they're 33-53 ATS at Arco and 22-41 ATS in non conference play. This year the Kings can't get out of their own way at home. Losing to the Lakers is one thing--losing outright to Memphis, Minnesota and Detroit quite another. You can add the Knicks to that list as well.

LOS ANGELES LAKERS AT DETROIT PISTONS--NOVEMBER 17, 2010
Here's a shock--the LA Lakers enter this game with a better record than the Pistons and are favored in this game. The defending champs are 9-2 but just 6-5 against the spread and come in off a game last night against Milwaukee. The Detroit Pistons are just 4-7 SU but they have something in common with their NFL homeboys the Detroit Lions--they've been money in the bank against the spread. The 2-7 SU Lions are 7-1-1 ATS and the 4-7 Pistons are 8-3 against the spread and catch the Lakers in one of their worst pointspread situations--against teams with losing records the Lakers are just 33-40 ATS since 2008.
The Pistons likely won't win, but we think they've got a good chance of hanging around and staying within this pointspread. Los Angeles has dropped 4 of 6 to the number and there's simply no way they can get 'up' to face this Detroit team. Pistons are 7-3 ATS as underdogs, 5-1 in non conference games and 4-0 against Pacific Division foes. They're a long way from even making the playoffs, but they're also no longer at rock bottom and we like them to cover against a Lakers' team that will be content to get a victory and move on.
