EDMONTON OILERS AT CAROLINA PANTHERS--NOVEMBER 9, 2010 4:05 PM PACIFIC
Strange price on this game, as we'd expected the 4-6-2 Oilers to be a substantially larger dog. Could be a function of public perception, with Edmonton off that hard fought win at Chicago. That actually sets up well for us here--one of the hardest things for a young team to do is get used to success. Winning teams take care of business and go on, but teams that aren't used to it suffer an emotional and/or energy letdown the next time out. Factor in the high of winning a pair of games in the past week against the defending Stanley Cup champions and you could have an Edmonton team that thinks they're a little further along in the development process than they really are. Carolina has been up and down this year, but they've won two straight at home and haven't played since Saturday night. They're still better 'on paper' than this young Oilers team and the fact that Edmonton comes in off a win over Chicago will help get the Hurricanes' attention for a better effort than they might ordinarily have against a sub .500 non-conference opponent.
